A Day in the Life of A Student-Athlete at IWU!

By Rocco Muratori ft. my teammate, Bright Kari

Welcome to a day in the life of a student-athlete at IWU! First, starting off by getting up early in the morning before class to get some work in the gym!
Workouts usually last 45 minutes to 1 hour. It's beneficial to have short and effective workouts, because it places less toll on the body but it is also more productive. Workout schedules depend entirely on when we have class.
While what we do on-court is incredibly important, what we do off-court is more important. As student-athletes, we are constantly putting our bodies through a lot on a daily basis. What we eat, and how much we eat, plays a pivotal role in our recovery and performance.
It is important to consume a wide variety or healthy foods, as it plays a huge role in our lives as student-athletes. As you can see here, my teammate is grabbing a salad. It is important to eat clean and healthy. Fruits and vegetables play a pivotal role a succesful student-athletes diet.
After eating, it is time to head to class! One of the most diffcult aspects of being a student-athlete is balance. We direct a majority of our attention to our athletics, because it is what we love to do and aspire to do for a long time. However, it is important that we go to class and take care of our studies as best we can.

After class, we head on over to chapel. Unlike most universities, we have chapel at IWU. Chapel is incredibly important at IWU, as all of the students have a faith background and are trying to better themelves as followers of Christ. Chapel is enlightening, vibrant, and a great place to express our love for the Lord.
After chapel and class, it is time for the second workout of the day. That usually is a weightlifting session. Weightlifting is important for athletes because it helps us to get stronger, which prevents injuries from occurring. This is incredibly important for basketball athletes who have a grueling, long season. These sessions range from 45 minutes to an hour plus.
After our athletic obligations are completed, it is time to take care of schoolwork and plan ahead for the next day. Time management is incredibly important for student-athletes. We have many different obligations that take up our time. Many student-athletes create day-to-day schedules, so that they devote time to different areas of their lives and be productive.
